It’s hard to sum up our history in just a few words, but here’s our story.
Soul Journey is a Black-owned travel group founded in the 1980s by my grandfather, Ronald Melvin Powell, and his partner, William Cunningham. Growing up in the Midwest, my grandfather didn’t have the chance—or the means—to travel. But his service during the Vietnam War opened his eyes to the world beyond America and sparked a lifelong passion for exploration.
Determined to share that experience, he dedicated himself to creating affordable travel opportunities for the Black community, building a tight-knit “travel family” that explored destinations together.
After both founders passed away in the mid-2000s, the Soul Journey Travel group paused for a time. But now, after thoughtful planning and renewal, we’re back—and ready to continue the journey they started.
